Illaroo Farm Landscape Masterplan

A visionary plan to restore Illaroo’s fire and flood scarred landscape into a thriving destination for cultural learning, ecological regeneration and nature-based tourism.

Yerrabingin was engaged by Mia Mia Properties Incorporated (MMPI) to develop a visionary landscape masterplan framework to help guide the future aspirations of their 480 ha property on the Shoalhaven River.

The property had previously functioned as a bush retreat with adventure activities for local community groups. However, catastrophic bushfires in 2019-202 destroyed vegetation, buildings and infrastructure. Subsequent flooding eroded riverbanks, degraded soils and disrupted access to the Shoalhaven River, driving the need to restore balance to the landscape.

Yerrabingin conducted a study assessing recovery opportunities while honouring Illaroo’s cultural and environmental significance.

Through discussions with the families of the MMPI, and collaboration with Odonta Foundation and Tzannes Architects, Yerrabingin created a landscape masterplan framework. The plan's vision is to restore the degraded landforms, flora and fauna, and promote eco-tourism through cultural education programming, accommodation amenities, camping facilities and bush food nurseries.
