Rather than the traditional consultation or engagement, Country and its custodians are active co-designers of the projects we work with through a shared collective voice instead of series of individual representations.

We, and in collaboration with the First Nations, the project team and the client, focus on the development of Country centred design narratives, principles and themes for projects. Our team will facilitate a collaboration process that will genuinely represent the voices of all those in the community.

ASPECT is continually inspired and uplifted by working with Yerrabingin. [They] have a unique way of bringing people together and prompting authentic conversations about design and place, which are underpinned by creative insights into indigenous culture and care for country. As landscape architects, we delight in learning and responding to this age-old knowledge made new. Yerrabingin brings a process and passion for new ways of designing which provides opportunities for the public to engage with indigenous culture make them a vital part of many projects. Working with Yerrabingin has enabled us to develop a better understanding of Indigenous culture and the many ways we can design more authentic places incorporating indigenous narratives.

Yerrabingin has worked with Conrad Gargett on the pilot project of the State Government (NSW) Connecting with Country Framework, on a new $260m hospital project. Yerrabingins’ advocacy and deep understanding of how critical it is to integrate Connecting with Country within healthcare environments were instrumental in achieving great results for all stakeholders. Working together resulted in a deeply committed design and as a result, this hospital includes opportunities to engage with Indigenous culture from the outset. Working with Yerrabingin has enabled us to develop a better understanding of Indigenous culture and has influenced the infrastructure to assist with providing an ongoing program of arts and culture-related activities incorporating indigenous narratives.

The design of our built environments provides a very direct and immediately accessible opportunity to interpret and express Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander narratives. As designers of the built environment, we at Architectus are informed and uplifted by working with Christian Hampson and his team of professionals at Yerrabingin – the meaning of which is “we walk together”. Through working together with Yerrabingin on multiple projects of significance we have gained an enhanced understanding of Indigenous cultures and the many ways that we can design more authentic places incorporating indigenous narratives.

Collaborating with Yerrabingin allowed us to develop a better understanding of how we could share and celebrate First Nations narratives at CommBank. The Yerrabingin team are extremely knowledgeable, passionate and a joy to work with. We are inspired to continue to create projects that spark conversation, and encourage an openness to learning about and respecting Country. We are immensely proud of the outcome.
