Barangaroo Harbour Park

Yerrabingin is part of the Indigenous-led AKIN team that won an international competition to design a 1.85-hectare public open space on Sydney Harbour, located on reclaimed land at the edge of the CBD.

Envisioned as a sanctuary for people and non-human kin alike, Barangaroo Harbour Park tells the story of Country, its people and the future. The design evolved within the framework that Community brought to us about how they would want to use and move through it with their families. Embedded knowledge in the design will allow them to pick grasses for weaving or point to species that flower at a certain time and trigger a memory or a story.

A timeless landscape will feature extensive planting, canopy cover, waterways and ponds. Nature play will cater to all ages and abilities, while a series of significant public artworks will emerge from the park as depictions of Country so that art and park are one. A large event lawn at the northern end of the site will support community and cultural events and ceremonies.

The welcoming new park will be a global showcase for First Nations design. Rich in culture, it will connect deeply to Country as an enduring place that can regenerate, grow and adapt to environmental and cultural shifts.
