New Eurobodalla Regional Hospital
The NSW Government is investing $330 million to build a modern, sustainable hospital to support the needs of the Eurobodalla Shire, from Narooma to Batemans Bay.
Yerrabingin was engaged to develop a Designing with Country strategy for the new health facility, working closely with architects Conrad Gargett, Southern NSW Local Health District, Health Infrastructure and members of the local First Nations Community.
Yerrabingin led the Designing with Country process to ensure the needs of Country were at the forefront of design development. The Designing with Conutry process was grounded by the question, 'How might we share a connection to Country at the hospital site to create a healing landscape accessible to everyone?'
Work began with a Walk on Country and Design Jam with the local Aboriginal Community and the project team. Key narratives and themes emerged around how the landscape might heal people and also how the landscape and Country might be healed. These included elements such as water treatment, gathering nodes and views to the west.
A Collaborative Workshop followed, identifying five key design opportunities: Welcoming; Country as Medicine; Spring Forest; Meeting Place; and Healing Place. These five opportunities informed the architecture and landscape architecture designs to develop a hospital that will be a healing, therapeutic and restorative space, inclusive to all visitors.
